DStv Catch Up to stay Premium… for now
DStv Catch Up, a video on demand service from MultiChoice that is offered to DStv Premium subscribers, may one day become available on cheaper bouquets.
However, speaking to journalists at an event on Wednesday 8 October 2014, CEO of DStv Digital Media John Kotsaftis said that it would not happen in the short term.
“I think at some point we will,” Kotsaftis said. “At the moment, what we have done is we have taken BoxOffice and we are now offering it on Compact – we’ve had fantastic results from that.”
MultiChoice’s catch-up service for its DStv Premium satellite pay-TV package (R665 per month + R75 per month PVR access) is available in both online and personal video recording (PVR) based variants.
On PVR, Catch Up features recently aired episodes of TV shows and sports highlights. Online, it also includes movies that were recently broadcast on DStv.
“At some point, we would certainly open it up, but not in the short term,” Kotsaftis said.
“We are still trying to gather enough content to be able to offer that because a lot of that stuff that we have comes from the Premium channels,” he added. “We would have to have a subset at a slightly enhanced, or third party channel offering for that segment, and we haven’t got the right content mix for that yet.”
