Why I resigned: Ellen Tshabalala
Ellen Tshabalala said that she resigned as SABC chairwoman because the ongoing controversy regarding her Unisa qualifications was taking its toll on her family. This is according to a report in the Cape Times.
According to the report Tshabalala said that she was definitely not pushed, and that she resigned out of her own will.
“In consideration of all the negative (publicity in the media), the organisation naturally is bigger than me, so it is better to quit and solve all your other issues from outside,” Tshabalala is quoted as saying.
“It’s over now, it’s behind me. I can focus on the things I really want in life,” said Tshabalala. “I’ve been in business for years. So this is not like a lifeline for me.”
Yesterday The Presidency announced the resignation Tshabalala. This followed parliament’s recommendation that Tshabalala should be removed from office.
Parliament found Tshabalala guilty on two charges of misconduct after an inquiry into whether she lied about her academic qualifications
The first charge of misconduct against Tshabalala related to her stating on her CV that she had obtained the two qualifications from UNISA when she applied for the job as SABC chairwoman.
However, the university has no record of her completing either one.
The other charge related to an affidavit she submitted to Parliament stating certificates of her qualifications were stolen during a burglary at her home.
