For the first time in South Africa, television viewers will be able to watch an international drama series at exactly the same time as their American counterparts.
MultiChoice announced recently that M-Net Edge (channel 102 on DStv) will simulcast season 5 of HBO’s Game of Thrones when it launches in the US on 12 April.
South Africa is among 170 countries where the series will be simulcast, with episodes set to air at 03:00 on Monday mornings starting 13 April 2015.
Last year M-Net introduced “Express from the US” which offered viewers the option of watching new episodes of acclaimed international series within 24 hours of their overseas air date.
Though some shows reached our screens an hour after their American premiere, this is the first time there will be no delay between the US airing and the South African debut.
Viewers who prefer a good night’s sleep to being ahead of the office chatter can watch the same episodes on Thursdays at 21:00, with the first episode scheduled for 16 April.
M-Net Edge is available to subscribers of the DStv Premium bouquet, which will cost R699 per month from 1 April 2015.
