PCCW Global, the international operating arm of HKT, has confirmed it will launch a new video on demand service in South Africa.
Bloomberg recently broke the news that a video streaming service backed by PCCW will launch in SA – however, PCCW would not confirm the report.
The company has now told MyBroadband that it will launch a new VOD service in the country in September.
“More details will be shared next Wednesday during an exclusive media launch to be held in Johannesburg,” the company said.
Details about the service remain sketchy. Some speculate it will be based on PCCW’s Now service, while broadcasting expert Thinus Ferreira predicts it will be VuClip.
The new video on demand offering will compete against local streaming services like Showmax, FrontRow, and Vidi.
