ONTAPtv.com in South Africa for R89 per month
PCCW Global will offer its ONTAPtv.com VOD service in South Africa from R39 per month.
ONTAPtv.com will compete against a number of VOD players which have already launched in South Africa, including ShowMax, Vidi, and MTN FrontRow.
Netflix has also confirmed its plans to launch in South Africa before the end of 2016.
Pricing
ONTAPtv.com said it will offer a la carte packaging, allowing subscribers to sign up for a subset of content if they choose.
The core packages are as follows:
- Family Package: R69 per month – suitable for under 16s
- TV Series Package: R69 per month – only TV series
- Movie Package: R69 per month – only movies
- Mega pack: R89 per month – includes all of the above packages.
ONTAPtv.com will also offer special packages called African On Tap, a Chinese Package for mandarin speakers, and Fight Sports from CSI. These will be available from R39 per month.
A transactional VOD section called Select, which will offer movie rentals from R15 per movie, is also available.
Platforms
The service will be available on smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs, and is connectable to TVs.
Subscribers will also be able to download content for later offline viewing (offline viewing is only available on tablets and smartphones, not PCs).
AlwaysOn deal
ONTAPtv.com also announced a deal with Wi-Fi provider AlwaysOn.
Subscribers will be able to buy packages for video streaming and downloading at AlwaysOn Super Wi-Fi locations at the following prices:
- 15GB for R29 for 30 days
- 50GB for R59 for 30 days
AlwaysOn Super Wi-Fi locations are sites where the Wi-Fi service provider has high-speed backhaul.
ONTAPtv.com is set to launch on 16 September, at which time geoblocking restrictions will be removed.
