TopTV PVR here in 2011
TopTV first launched its pay-TV services on 1 May this year, bringing competition to MultiChoice’s DStv service for the first time in South Africa. The company said that it sold out its first batch of 50 000 decoders on the first day, a clear indication that the country was hungry for another pay-TV service.
The new Pay TV provider today said that it is committed to providing quality entertainment at affordable prices. Channels on offer include BET (Black Entertainment TV), Natura, Current TV, Discovery ID, JimJam, as well as several Fox channels.
The company also recently announced that it is negotiating potential deals with channel partners with the aim of adding more channels to its current pay-TV bouquets.
Elouise Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer and official spokesperson for TopTV, however said that while they are talking to channel partners to extend their current channel bouquets she cannot give any details about potential new channels until the contractual negotiations are finalized.
TopTV subscribers may also find it encouraging that the company is planning to launch its PVR functionality in 2011. It is not clear what device TopTV will use and what the pricing will be.
