ShowMax Chromecast and Apple TV support still in the works

ShowMax is still working on support for Chromecast and Apple TV, but said it doesn’t have a release date for the apps. It has promised that it will be “definitely sooner rather than later.”

This comes after ShowMax boss John Kotsaftis said last year he had asked his team to “redouble efforts” to have the new apps out before the end of 2015.

ShowMax said it decided to first focus on differentiating its service by adding features tailored specifically to the South African market – which resulted in the app delay.

“By enabling downloads and making vouchers available, we’re addressing the fact that not everyone in SA has a great Internet connection at home and not everyone has a credit card to pay for the service,” said ShowMax

ShowMax said it has seen the comments and hears the frustration of the people waiting on it to add support for their favourite devices.

“We’ve been busy beefing up our tech team to accelerate the development process.”

ShowMax said it is also working on support for a number of additional platforms.

“Chromecast and AppleTV are earlier on the roadmap than some of the other platforms.”
