DStv Jumbo Universal Remote launched

MultiChoice today announced that it has launched its DStv Jumbo Universal Remote, and at the same time donated 100 of these devices to Blind SA.

“MultiChoice identified a need amongst certain subscribers for an easier-to-operate remote, specifically one that would facilitate ease of use for the physically challenged. Blind SA worked with the team from MultiChoice to provide valuable feedback and suggestions. This collaboration made it possible for a Braille manual to be made available, enabling the blind to use this remote with ease,” MultiChoice said in a press statement.

The Jumbo Universal remote has fewer and larger buttons and an illuminated keypad. These buttons can perform all the usual functions on a PVR decoder like play, pause and rewind. The ergonomic design of the remote means that it does not need to be pointed towards the decoder to work – instead it can be placed on a table.

MultiChoice Chief Technology Officer Gerdus van Eeden says; “ The Jumbo Universal Remote is the result of a dedicated team effort, who took due consideration of feedback received on the need for this remote. It will significantly improve the viewing experience of our subscribers who might struggle with the normal remote and therefore, I’m pleased that we are launching it to the market.”

The remote is compatible with all decoder models, including the PVR and can even be programmed to control two other devices such as a TV and DVD player as well as your sound system. It is also XtraView compatible and directly supports most televisions in South Africa.

It is available at MultiChoice branches and online via www.dstv.com and retails at R199.00.
