No Game of Thrones screeners because of piracy

HBO has decided to stop giving the media early access to Game of Thrones episodes – either on DVD or via online screening – fearing they will be leaked onto Torrent websites.

“We’re not sending out press copies this year, anywhere in the world,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told Entertainment Weekly.

This is the first time this has happened for a major TV series.

In 2015, the first four episodes of the new season of the popular show leaked online before the season premiere aired to audiences.

This was after HBO took extraordinary steps to ensure the series aired at the same time in 170 countries.
