Best movies and series on ShowMax
JustWatch, a search engine for TV shows and movies on online streaming services, lets you filter titles on platforms like ShowMax and Netflix by ratings.
In addition to Netflix and ShowMax, iTunes Films, Google Play Movies, and DStv BoxOffice are also searchable.
It supports IMDb ratings and scores from Rotten Tomatoes, and when you filter shows or movies they are ordered according to a JustWatch rating.
Movies
We set JustWatch’s filter to show films with an IMDb rating of 8.0 or higher, and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% or more.
Of the 475 titles it lists as available on ShowMax, 16 were returned and ranked according to JustWatch’s rating system.
The top 10 are:
Movie rank | ShowMax |
---|---|
1 | The Terminator |
2 | Catch Me If You Can |
3 | Star Trek |
4 | How to Train Your Dragon |
5 | Reservoir Dogs |
6 | Pan’s Labyrinth |
7 | Good Will Hunting |
8 | Fargo |
9 | Million Dollar Baby |
10 | Rocky |
Using only IMDb ratings brings Gladiator, Shutter Island, Sin City, and Scarface into the top 10.
With only Rotten Tomatoes used, Hot Fuzz, Cast Away, The Hurt Locker, and Minority Report enter ShowMax’s top 10.
Series
JustWatch does not let you rank series by their Rotten Tomatoes score, so for this list we only used IMDb ratings.
JustWatch did not pick up that ShowMax has Sherlock in its library, so we added it to the top 10.
Series rank | ShowMax |
---|---|
1 | Band of Brothers |
2 | Game of Thrones |
3 | The Wire |
4 | The Sopranos |
5 | Sherlock |
6 | Avatar: The Last Airbender |
