Netflix’s new settings in its mobile apps for Android and iOS let subscribers manage their data usage when streaming on cellular networks.
The default setting will let you stream about 3 hours of TV shows and movies per GB of data.
“In terms of bitrates, that currently amounts to about 600 Kilobits per second,” said Netflix.
“On cellular networks, this setting balances good video quality with lower data usage.”
Those with higher data caps can adjust the setting to stream at higher bitrates.
How to set your cellular data usage
Once you have updated the Netflix app to the most recent version, select App Settings from the menu, and choose Cellular Data Usage.
From there you can switch off the automatic default and select a higher or lower data usage setting.
