Bill should focus on SABC

During oral submissions at Gallagher Estate in Midrand the companies expressed how the SABC was in need of relief and that issues in the Bill needed to be narrowed.

Director of regularities affairs at MNet, Karen Willenberg, reminded the gathering that the Electronic Communications Act was the key statute which deals with the licensing and regulations of the electronic communications sector.

“In its focus and purpose the Bill must find its place alongside existing legislation. It should only be dealing with issues of public broadcasting which require regulations over and above what is provided for in the Electronic Communications Act.”

MNet and Multichoice also highlighted the need for a strong financial model at the SABC.
