The first episode of the new season of Top Gear has earned the show’s lowest TV viewer ratings in 10 years.

According to a report by the Mirror, data from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board revealed that the Chris Evans-headed show secured a peak of 4.7 million viewers and an average of 4.4 million viewers when it aired this week.

The report stated that the lowest viewing figures Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond received in recent times was in May 2006 – with an episode earning 4.75 million viewers.

In 2007, Top Gear’s episodes were topping out at over 8 million viewers, while Evans hoped to reach the 5-million mark on his debut.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May will launch their new Amazon TV motoring show – The Grand Tour – in the near future, with filming currently underway.
