The Netflix binge and savour scale

Netflix has published its new binge scale, which reveals the types of TV series users “devour” and the types of shows they “savour”.

The service found that many members choose to binge-watch their way through a series.

“That is, on average, finishing an entire season in one week,” said Netflix.

Even though binge-watching is a popular way of watching a series, it said not all shows are enjoyed this way.

By looking at over 100 TV shows across 190 countries, Netflix said it found that when subscribers are focussed on finishing a series, they watch a little over two hours a day to complete a season.

“When organizing series in relation to this benchmark, interesting patterns emerge, ranging from high-energy narratives that are devoured to thought-provoking dramas that are savoured,” said Netflix.

“As The Binge Scale indicates, the viewing experience of a series can range from the emotional to the thought-provoking.”
