The SABC has appointed a new Group Chief Executive Officer, the public broadcaster announced.

In a tweet on Tuesday, the SABC Online revealed that James Aguma would take over from outgoing acting Group CEO Jimi Matthews, who resigned on Monday.

In his resignation letter, Matthews said his “immediate resignation” is due to the fact that he can be more effective outside of the SABC than working in it.

He said the “corrosive atmosphere” has impacted negatively on his moral judgement, which made him “complicit in many decisions” he is not proud of.
