How much it costs to have an IMAX movie theatre in your house

IMAX will install one of its movie projection systems and screens in your home for $400,000 (R6.1 million), Bloomberg reported.

The basic Palais system covers theatres of up to 75 square meters. Set-top box and film rentals cost extra.

Called IMAX Private Theatres, the product is aimed at high-net-worth individuals.

After installing the home theatre, users pay $10,000 for a set-top box that delivers new movies.

There is also a fee for each movie rental.

Platinum option

There is also a larger Platinum set-up which seats up to 40 guests, and costs around $1 million.

IMAX said it is expanding sales of both systems to North America and Europe.

Plans for a smaller version called Prestige are also in the works, which IMAX said will be roughly half the size and price of the Palais system.
