The new Netflix movies and series releasing in 2016

Netflix is continually expanding its content library, regularly bringing new series and movies to the platform.

Part of Netflix’s strategy to attract subscribers is to produce original content – including shows like the highly-acclaimed Narcos.

The strategy is working so far, with the company’s earning’s report for Q2 2016 showing it added 1.54 million subscribers over the period.

Below is a selection of the new Netflix original series and movies scheduled to be released before the end of 2016, including content added to the library in late July.

Stranger Things – 15 July


A love letter to the ’80s classics that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air.

A twisted psychological thriller from writer/director Karl Mueller (Mr. Jones) and producer Ross Dinerstein (The Pact, The Nightmare).

While searching for her ex-boyfriend, a young drifter impulsively kidnaps a baby from a neglectful mother and pretends the child is her own.

Set in New York in 1977, this music-driven drama series chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco.

XOXO – 26 August


XOXO is an ensemble comedy about a group of 20-somethings on a crazy adventure to the biggest EDM festival in America, XOXO.


Narcos Season 2 – 2 September


This raw, gritty series chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the drug kingpins of the late 1980s.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern-day Harlem.
