Motsoeneng’s “lunacy” leads to Thank You SABC concert

The DA has called on SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng and Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to cancel a planned Thank You SABC music concert at Orlando Stadium.

The concert is planned for 10 September 2016, and will celebrate the SABC’s decision to put 90% local music quotas in place on its radio stations.

The DA’s Phumzile Van Damme said the concert is wasteful expenditure and comes as the public broadcaster is projected to run at a loss of R1 billion.

“This is in fact absurd and diametrically at odds with sound financial management.”

“The DA looks forward to the release of the SABC’s annual report in the next month, it is quite clear that the SABC will make significant losses. We intend to hold those responsible accountable, and will fight to see a farewell for Motsoeneng,” said Van Damme.
