Netflix expects stiff competition from Jeremy Clarkson’s car show on Amazon

Netflix said it expects Amazon Prime Video to become as global as YouTube and Netflix with the launch of The Grand Tour in November.

This is in line with information MyBroadband received from an industry source that the global expansion of Amazon Prime Video will include South Africa.

“We face immense competition for consumer screen time,” said Netflix.

“Despite video gaming getting better, video messaging and sharing improving, MVPD UI enhancements, YouTube growth, more SVOD services, and other screen time competitors, Netflix continues to win both time and affection.”

Netflix said its main challenge is to continue to improve its service and content, so that it better meets consumer desires.

Amazon recently announced that The Grand Tour will launch on 18 November, leading to speculation that Prime Video will be available in South Africa before then.

Amazon did not respond to questions about a South African launch.
