New F-Rating for movies on IMDb

F-Rated

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has adopted the “F-Rating” system to highlight the role of women in films.

The BBC reported that the F-Rating was introduced by Bath Film Festival director Holly Tarquini in 2014 and is now used by 40 UK cinemas and festivals.

The F-Rating is a classification for any film which:

  • Is directed by a woman
  • Is written by a woman
  • Features significant women on screen in their own right

There are currently 21,783 F-rated movies listed on IMDb.

IMDb CEO Col Needham said the F-Rating “is a great way to highlight women on screen and behind the camera”.
