SuperSport has announced a partnership with GINX eSports TV, a channel which specialises in competitive gaming.
SuperSport plans to launch its GINX channel during April.
The channel will screen international tournaments and SuperSport is working with GINX to alter the channel line-up to allow coverage of local events – like the rAge Expo.
This is not the first time SuperSport has covered eSports.
SuperSport CEO Gideon Khobane said they were “just dipping their toes in the water” previously, and he is aware they are competing squarely in the domain of the Internet.
While this will be a challenge, it also presents an opportunity to appeal to people who are not DStv subscribers.
“Without revealing too much, we’ve asked MultiChoice to help,” said Khobane.
SuperSport has requested that the offering around GINX be developed to draw in gamers who aren’t DStv subscribers.
Khobane also revealed that GINX will be integrated into DStv’s existing online offerings.
Its linear broadcast will be available for live streaming over DStv Now. Highlights will be packaged and made available on Catch Up.
