Following the season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones, HBO’s streaming app on smartphones – HBO NOW – was downloaded 500,000 times, TechCrunch reported.
Subscription revenue from the app tripled and pushed HBO NOW to the number three spot on App Annie’s “Top Grossing” charts for iOS and Google Play.
On the day of the premiere, the app shot up the charts by 11 spots in the US, beating the likes of Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans on revenue.
Anti-piracy company MUSO recently reported that the season 7 premiere was pirated 90 million times.
MUSO said it arrived at the figure by extrapolating the surfing habits of 200 million devices from 200 countries, visiting 23,000 of the most-used piracy sites.
