DA Shadow Minister of Telecommunications Marian Shinn has called on Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo to reveal the details of the state-sponsored set-top box procurement process.
The call follows reports that President Jacob Zuma’s son Mxolisi influenced the process to favour Altech UEC.
“This will reveal where the corruption in the process was identified in the R1-billion first phase of the STB procurement process,” said Shinn.
She said the National Treasury commissioned PwC to investigate the process and its report was completed in March 2016.
The report was given to the Communications Minister at the time, Faith Muthambi.
“The switchover to digital broadcasting technology has been severely hampered by policy uncertainty and broadcasting turf battles – mainly centred on STB encryption – for eight years,” said Shinn.
