MultiChoice has made multiple enhancements to DStv Now in recent months, following viewer growth on the platform.
DStv Now is available to Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact customers, and be accessed via web browsers, or its Android and iOS apps.
MultiChoice said it has implemented a number of improvements for the service in recent months, including:
- Opening DStv Now to Compact Plus and Compact customers.
- Customers can now screencast on Android and iOS, and AirPlay on iOS.
- Updating the live TV layout on the DStv Now apps.
- Launching additional channels on the service.
The channels and their launch dates include:
- Ginx eSports – 1 May
- Sundance TV – 1 June
- SuperSport 10, 11, 12 – 4 July
- SABC 1,2,3, and eNCA – 12 July
“We want to give our customers the same viewing and entertainment experience they get on their decoders at home, on DStv Now while they are on the go,” said MultiChoice of the enhancements.
An aspect the company is focused on is providing viewers with high-quality video streams, which it manages using adaptive bitrate technology.
“This allows our customers to see a higher-quality stream based on the speed of their connection. The feature also allows our customers to select a specific-quality stream, which in turn allows them to control the amount of data that is used to deliver the content.”
It added that offering HD-quality streams is part of its “ongoing product planning process”. “We’re currently ensuring that we have the necessary rights to offer higher-quality streams to our users,” said MultiChoice.
SuperSport recently told MyBroadband the company has seen a “steady growth” in the number of subscribers who are watching sports content on DStv Now.
However, it has no current plans to launch a SuperSport-only streaming service.
