The SABC’s acting group CEO Nomsa Philiso has become “more powerful than even former boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng”, reported the City Press.
The report stated that Philiso’s term as acting CEO has been extended and Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo has delegated the accounting authority of the SABC board to her.
“Some people laugh that board meetings at the SABC are now Nomsa and herself,” a source told the City Press.
DA spokesperson Phumzile van Damme said Dlodlo had not informed parliament about delegating board authority to Philiso.
The SABC has not had a board since September, when the interim board’s term came to an end.
President Jacob Zuma has been accused of deliberately delaying the appointment of an SABC board.
Reports have stated that Zuma is delaying the appointment so he can find a way to retain control of the public broadcaster.
“This is despite Dlodlo stating on Tuesday that the board matter would probably be resolved this week,” stated the report.
The news follows a recent report that SABC staff have given Philiso seven days to deliver on a list of 13 demands, or they will go on strike.
