User selected DStv channel packages on the radar
Summary: MultiChoice won’t confirm whether they will offer specialised or customisable DStv channel bouquets in future, but they are monitoring global developments around the concept.
Global developments around custom or specialised channel bouquets is something MultiChoice is watching for their DStv pay TV platform, reports television journalist Thinus Ferreira, quoting general manager for content at MultiChoice, Aletta Alberts.
According to the report, Alberts said, ”As we develop and as new technology, new back-end systems, and all of that come onto the market, it does become something that we keep on investigating.”
She added that they “might have some news for you on that” in the near future, but that it doesn’t mean they are going to do it – just that they haven’t ruled it out as a possibility.
Alberts previously explained (in October 2010) that there are financial and technical challenges to allowing subscribers to choose their own channels.
“It would greatly increase the monthly subscription fee even if fewer channels are selected. It conflicts with international supplier practices; it will also increase administration cost and make account administration expensive,” Alberts said.
