TopTV and Playboy TV content

TopTV acting CEO Eddie Mbalo has said that they are still keen to offer adult content, like Playboy TV, to their subscribers. This content should however not be seen as porn, said Mbalo.

Speaking on eTV Mbalo said that the idea of “porn channels” is a fabrication by the media, and that he sees their offering as adult entertainment.

Mbalo added that their planned adult content is not too different from content which is carried by DStv and previously by eTV.

The acting TopTV CEO said that their subscribers responded positively to the possible addition of adult content to the TopTV platform. “People want choice,” said Mbalo.

Mbalo explained that the protection of children is a key priority to them, and that they have put very good systems in place to ensure that kids are not exposed to adult content.

Mbalo slated the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) for stopping the broadcast of adult content, saying that it falls outside of their authority.

TopTV is currently awaiting the reasons for the decision by ICASA on why they have blocked the broadcasting of adult content.

ICASA said that their council will discuss the issue this week, and after it went through the legal processes TopTV will be provided with reasons for their decision.
