DStv increases prices
MultiChoice’s annual DStv price adjustments kick in today, 1 April 2024, with subscription fees increasing by between 3.1% and 7.8%.
Only DStv’s decoder-based products are getting a price hike. Its streaming-only package remains unchanged.
The company announced the price hikes on 19 February. Stats SA announced in January that South Africa’s average inflation for 2023 was 6%.
MultiChoice’s lower-tier packages are getting larger increases than its more expensive products.
DStv Access received the biggest increase at 7.8%, followed by DStv Compact Plus with a 6.9% hike.
To compensate for the large increases, MultiChoice said it would offer greater value on these packages.
Compact Plus subscribers will get a revamped set of channels that includes the best of Showmax’s original content.
The company announced that DStv Access would get a big upgrade to its sports offering in the form of SuperSport’s La Liga football channel.
DStv Access’ sports lineup now includes ESPN, La Liga, SuperSport Variety 4, and SuperSport Blitz.
DStv’s price adjustments for the 2024/25 financial year are summarised in the table below.
