MultiChoice will launch two new high-definition (HD) SuperSport channels on 23 July 2012, a spokesperson for the pay-TV operator recently told MyBroadband.
These channels will be brought online specifically for the Olympic games, MultiChoice said, with one requiring that a new transponder be activated on the Intelsat 7 satellite.
SuperSport HD5 will reside on the new 11474 Vertical transponder, while SuperSport HD4 will be on the current 11554 Vertical transponder, MultiChoice said.
Asked if they had already started testing on the new transponder, MultiChoice said that tests began on 6 July 2012. The Olympic porgramme is set to start from 25 July, MultiChoice said.
The channels will automatically be available to DStv subscribers with HD access from 23 July 2012, MultiChoice said.
If a decoder doesn’t pick up the new channels immediately, subscribers need only rescan, or reboot the decoder, MultiChoice said.
MultiChoice said that it isn’t able to confirm at this stage whether it will use the additional transponder after the olympics are over.
