Christmas movies you can stream for free in South Africa
Streaming services eVOD and Plex offer a range of Christmas and other movies that South Africans and visitors to the country can watch for free this festive season.
These include classics like It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, Scrooge, and newer titles such as Our First Christmas and The Twelve Days of Christmas Eve.
MyBroadband looked for Christmas movies available to stream for free in South Africa and found 11 options. However, several of which we hadn’t heard of.
While 11 free streaming services are currently available in the country, most only offer access to select live TV channels, while Plex and eVOD offer a range of on-demand movies and TV shows.
This means that viewers won’t need to check TV guides to ensure they don’t miss certain movies, as the titles listed are all on-demand.
Accessing them requires only an active Internet connection and a device capable of accessing it. These include Android and iOS devices, select smart TV platforms and web browsers.
Plex offers on-demand streaming of available titles in up to 1080p resolution, while eVOD’s resolution maxes out at 720p.
According to Netflix, streaming a 1080p title will require an Internet connection speed of 5Mbps or higher. This shouldn’t be a problem for many, as even entry-level fibre packages offer higher speeds.
Those watching eMedia’s eVOD platform at 720p resolution will require an Internet speed of 3Mbps or higher.

These include popular classics like It’s a Wonderful Life, the 1951 and 1984 productions of A Christmas Carol, and Scrooge.
It’s a Wonderful Life — Plex (95%)

Ebenezer Scrooge (played by George C. Scott), a spiteful and miserly man, encounters the Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and yet to come on Christmas Eve who show him the error of his ways.
