DStv for R50 a month
South African residents can use DStv’s split bill feature to substantially cut the monthly cost of the broadcaster’s packages, including its lower-tier subscriptions.
DStv launched the feature in January 2026, and customers in South Africa can subscribe to the DStv Stream Access package and pay just R50 per month.
Alternatively, they can get a decoder package for as low as R15 per month with the EasyView package or R75 per month with the decoder-based Access subscription.
MultiChoice has confirmed to MyBroadband that the feature applies to all off-contract decoder and streaming DStv packages.
“Currently, you can only split your DStv bill with one other person, but there are plans to enable subscribers to split their bill with more than just one household member,” it added.
Through the split bill feature, the primary holder of a DStv account can use the MyDStv app to send a payment link to split the monthly bill between them and another person.
“The feature reflects the reality of shared living arrangements, where subscription costs are often divided across households, and is designed to make cost-sharing simpler and more transparent,” MultiChoice said.
While this makes getting a DStv Premium subscription, the broadcaster’s top-tier package, for R400 per month possible, it also cuts the monthly fee for many lower-tier packages.
DStv Compact offers subscribers access to various sports and entertainment channels. The streaming package costs R399 per month, and the decoder package R479 per month.
However, splitting the monthly bill drops these fees to R200 per month and R240 per month, respectively.
Subscribers can also split the price of a DStv Family streaming package from R299 to R150 per month, while splitting a DStv Family decoder subscription drops the fee from R339 to R170 per month.
DStv Access is one of the broadcaster’s more affordable packages, offering subscribers access to over 40 channels, including select sports channels.
The DStv Access streaming plan costs R99 per month, and splitting it cuts the cost to R50 per month. At the same time, splitting a DStv Access decoder package reduces the monthly fee from R150 to R75.
While not available for streaming, DStv also offers an EasyView package, which is its most affordable.
The subscription gives customers access to over 30 channels for R30 per month. Splitting the bill drops the fee to R15 per month.

No plans to increase prices yet
Groupe Canal+ took control of MultiChoice in September 2025, with the final phase of the transaction commencing on 13 October that same year.
MultiChoice is now part of Canal+ Africa, and in early February 2026, Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot revealed that the company had no current plans to increase DStv prices.
Groupe Canal+ recently hosted a briefing to update investors and the media on its plans for MultiChoice following its takeover of the company.
“We don’t have any price increase planned at this moment,” Mignot said in response to a question about Canal+ Africa’s plans to adjust pricing.
The French media giant’s acquisition of MultiChoice led to concerns that the company’s annual DStv price increases may be scheduled for earlier in the year.
This is because the MultiChoice Group’s financial year ran from 1 April to 31 March, and its financial year-end is shifting to 31 December to align with Canal+’s financial year.
Historically, DStv’s price adjustments have been implemented from the start of MultiChoice’s financial year, meaning customers’ bills changed on 1 April each year.
MyBroadband previously asked the broadcaster whether the change to its financial year-end would affect this date, but it has not yet commented on the matter.
