DStv Stream gives problems during Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup match
DStv once again experienced problems on game day during the FIFA World Cup when Bafana Bafana met the Czech Republic in Atlanta Stadium in the U.S. on Thursday evening.
Several customers reported that they were unable to watch live, instead receiving an error message stating: “Oops. Something went wrong CDNAT 403.”
Others received a similar error message but without the CDNAT detail: “Whoops. Looks like something went wrong. Please try again.”
Customers took to social media to complain about being unable to watch Bafana Bafana play in its second group match, which it drew 1–1.
“DStv ga o re tseye serious! What are we paying for kgante? We wanna watch the game. SABC+ is also buffering! The absolute ghetto!!!” one person said.
“Why are we paying for DStv Stream if we can’t even watch the game?” said another.
Others were even more direct. “DStv Stream is annoying, yerrrr,” a Twitter/X user said. “YOH, DStv Stream sucks,” another said.
Outage tracking platform Downdetector showed that complaints intensified around 18:00, when the game kicked off.
This is at least the second time DStv had problems with its online platforms during the FIFA World Cup.
The main DStv website experienced an outage on Thursday, 11 June 2026, hours before the World Cup was scheduled to kick off with a match between Bafana Bafana and Mexico in Mexico City.
Attempting to access the website where people can sign up and manage their subscription resulted in an HTTP 503 Service Unavailable server error.
MyBroadband’s testing indicated that the main website loaded intermittently, but attempting to log in and access account information resulted in the error message.
DStv’s streaming service appeared unaffected by that outage. Existing subscribers could access the DStv.stream website and apps, and the SuperSport PSL channel (DStv 202) could be streamed.
DStv sets new streaming record
The following day, DStv revealed that it had recorded more than 900,000 concurrent viewers during the FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Mexico.
DStv said the match set a new live-sport streaming record for its platform, nearly doubling its previous peak of close to 500,000 viewers.
That previous high was recorded during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final, making Thursday’s audience a significant jump for DStv’s streaming service.
DStv said its streaming figures reflected strong demand for football across Africa, with a record ten African nations competing at the 2026 tournament.
This was because FIFA had expanded the format to include 48 nations, up from the traditional 32-team format. It is also the first World Cup to be hosted across 3 countries: Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.
DStv added that making all 104 World Cup matches available on DStv Access, its cheapest package outside the basic EasyView service, was helping the tournament reach a broader audience.
