SABC Freddie Mercury Another One Bites the Dust

The price of a TV licence in South Africa is set to increase by 6% – from R250 per year to R265 per year – from 1 September 2013.

The SABC told MyBroadband that South Africans will have to pay R265 per year for a TV license from 1 September.

The price of a concessionary TV licence will increase from the current R70 per year to R74 per year.

Concessionary TV licence fees are available to people who receive of a social grant from the state and people who are older than 70.

In terms of the Broadcasting Act any person or entity that has in its possession and/or uses a TV set must have a TV license.

A licence remains payable, irrespective of whether a television set in one’s possession is used or not.
