DStv online services: what about old decoders?
There are currently no plans to activate the USB and Ethernet ports on older DStv HD PVR decoders when the upcoming online content delivery features for the new DStv Explora decoder are launched, MultiChoice recently told MyBroadband.
MultiChoice launched the DStv Explora on 15 August 2013 at a recommended retail price of R2,499.
Decoder software developed in-house at MultiChoice promises better usability, while the 2 Terabyte hard drive promises more recording space.
In a press statement accompanying the announcement of the Explora on 31 July 2013, MultiChoice South Africa CEO Collins Khumalo was quoted as saying that more features will be enabled over the coming months.
Delivering content via broadband, setting of remote recordings, and one-click BoxOffice rentals, were among the features Khumalo listed.
When asked for more details, MultiChoice did not comment on when it expects to launch its Internet-based delivery features, but said that it currently has no plans to activate the unused USB and Ethernet ports on older decoders.
