Freevision channel list

Freevision

The Freevision channel line-up includes 36 television channels and 16 radio channels, according to press statement issued by Sentech at the Freevision launch event in Johannesburg on Monday, 30 September 2013.

Sentech’s Freevision bouquet is largely the same as the line-up it offered under its former free-to-air satellite TV brand, Vivid.

However, Sentech CEO Setumo Mohapi promised at the launch event that the Freevision platform will offer South Africans more by being open and interoperable with other broadcasters.

Amongst other things, Mohapi said that Freevision could carry content for new pay TV broadcasters such as Close TV and Siyaya TV, who have applied for licenses from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

Sentech is also working on an online video player for content that it carries, along with catch-up services, HD content, and personal video recording, Mohapi said.

Freevision launched on Monday at a starting once-off price of R1,350 including dish, decoder, and installation, though other manufacturers have indicated plans to bring set-top boxes to market at different price points.

ABT plans to offer a decoder, dish, and installation for R1,699, while Telergy is planning a range of offerings starting from R499 up to R1,499 for a decoder with HD and video-on-demand features.
