TopTV becoming StarTimes TV?

TopTV viewers have noticed a change in branding on the satellite pay TV platform’s movie channel, Top Movies, to STV Movies 1.
This comes a few weeks before the deal with StarTimes is set to conclude (November 2013, according to BusinessTech) that will see the China-based operator acquire a 20% stake in On Digital Media (ODM).
On Digital Media, which operates TopTV, has declined to confirm or deny whether the new logo is indicative of a name and branding change for the broadcaster.
“We are in a transition phase right now, and a lot of changes will be made,” a spokesperson told MyBroadband, adding that they are busy testing these changes at the moment.
Other than changes expected to TopTV’s bouquet of channels, StarTimes has indicated that it plans to take an axe to subscription TV costs in South Africa.
The relaunch of TopTV and the expected introduction of its porn channels comes after Sentech relaunched its Vivid platform as “Freevision” , on Monday 30 September 2013.
E-tv sister company Platco Digital is also expected to launch its subscription-free satellite TV service, OpenView HD, in mid-October 2013.
