New DStv channel after complaints

MultiChoice has revealed that the MGM channel which launched on Tuesday, 12 November 2013, will be made available to DStv Premium subsribers from Saturday, 16 November 2013.

This followed a recent report on Channel24 which said that Premium subscribers felt cheated when it emerged that they would not receive the channel, while DStv Access, Family, Compact, and Extra subscribers did.

According to Channel24, this was the first time MultiChoice decided not to “sell through” a non-premium channel to clients that pay higher subscription fees.

“We understand that our customers, especially those without PVRs, are sensitive to the amount of repeats on DStv,” MultiChoice said in a statement provided to MyBroadband. “Excluding MGM from Premium was a decision taken to partly address this concern.”

Not all channels that launch on the DStv platform, such as MGM, are intended for Premium customers, MultiChoice said. “However, we understand our Premium customers would like to have the full range of channels available on their package.”

MultiChoice thanked their Premium customers for their feedback on this issue.

“We hope you will enjoy the entertainment on offer on MGM,” MultiChoice said. “We want to give our customers on all the different packages the best entertainment at great value for their monthly subscription.”
