MTN engineers win court battle to keep company cars

20 MTN radio mast engineers have won a legal battle to keep their personal company cars and petrol cards, reported News24.

MTN argued that cars and petrol cards should be retracted, and that cars be pooled for employees.

The savings would be a boost for the company’s shareholders, said MTN.

The employees’ attorney Dean Caro said that four arbitrations by employees against MTN were instituted countrywide.

“MTN have lost three and settled one. Unfortunately, only my clients in KwaZulu-Natal were allowed to keep the benefit pending the outcome of the arbitration,” he said.

Nationally, around 520 employees are affected by the decision.

The report added that the Durban arbitration took over two years, and MTN was ordered to pay its employees’ legal costs.
