Paypal coming to South Africa
Over the last few weeks the local Internet has been abuzz with speculation that First National Bank is planning to bring Paypal to local shores. The news first emerged in February via microblogging platform Twitter that FNB is in discussions with Paypal to bring the online banking service to South Africa.
First National Bank today invited journalists to an event where Michael Jordaan, CEO of FNB, and senior executives from Paypal, will discuss how they’re working together to make global eCommerce faster and easier for the South African market.
Details about the partnership will only be revealed on 25 March, but this invitation all but confirms that local consumers can look forward to getting access to a much wider range of Paypal services in South Africa.
To date local consumers could make online payments via Paypal, but could not accept funds and deposit them into a local credit card account.
