South African IT Salaries revealed
Online job portal CareerJunction recently released its latest CareerJunction Index (CJI) for the fourth quarter of 2009, revealing the salary and recruitment trends in South Africa.
One of the focus areas of the report is Information Technology, and according to the report the demand for IT professionals has decreased while supply has seen a slight increase.
“Overall recruitment in the professional field of Information Technology is currently easy since recruiters have access to a large talent pool. A significant decrease in job offerings during the third and fourth quarters of 2009 has eased recruitment conditions,” the latest CJI report states.
The number of potential career seekers per job advert increased over the last few months – from 24 in July 2009 to 35 in December 2009.
Demand levels for highly skilled IT professionals however remain high while supply is low, especially in more technical fields. Business Analysis, Development & Software professionals and Software Testers are in particularly high demand.
Salaries
The shortage in business analysts is clearly reflected in the current salary levels. “There is a remarkable skills shortage of business analysts. The limited workforce could be the reason for higher salary offerings. Business Analysts within the Information Technology profession currently earn anything between R30 000 and R79 000 per month,” the report states.
The following table provides an overview of current salary trends in the local IT market.
