CareerJunction has released its latest CareerJunction Index (CJI) report, which shows the demand for telecommunications professionals has plummeted over the last few months.
The CJI uses data gathered from the CareerJunction website to represent labour dynamics in South Africa.
According to the CareerJunction report, the demand for workers in the field of telecommunications has decreased noticeably over the last 3 months.
The demand for telecommunications professionals is also down around 10% when compared to the same period last year.
This situation is hardly surprising, considering that Telkom, MTN, and Cell C have reduced their staff numbers over the last year.
The following graph shows the volume of telecommunications job adverts over the past 12 months.
Better news for IT jobseekers
Good news is that the IT job market in South Africa looks more buoyant than the telecommunications sector.
There was a year-on-year increase of 16% in IT jobs.
However, the growth has plateaued over the last 6 months, as shown in the graph below.
