IT salaries in South Africa – what people really earn

MyBroadband’s latest IT salary survey revealed that the average basic monthly IT and telecoms salary in South Africa is R33,067.

The salary survey was completed by 3,254 IT and telecommunications professionals across South Africa, which included employees from small, medium, and large businesses.

The survey gathered salary information from South African IT and telecoms professionals related to age, experience, qualification, company size, seniority, and job area.

The survey also distinguished between employees’ basic monthly salary (excluding benefits and bonuses), and the person’s full annual salary package.

It should be noted that the salary scales listed below are for all workers in the IT field, including support staff and admin staff.

Age and experience

The survey results show that age and experience are still the main factors when defining IT and telecoms salaries. There is a particularly big jump in salaries after employees gained 5 years’ experience.

Qualifications
