CareerJunction has released its latest salary review, which provides an overview of South African salaries in the IT, engineering, and design sectors.
The review is based on salary offerings on the CareerJunction website (28,000+ jobs monthly) over Q4 2014 and Q1 2015.
According to the report, salaries in Gauteng are between 20% to 30% higher than in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. “But this only applies to certain sectors,” said Paul Byrne, MD of CareerJunction.
According to CareerJunction, these salary disparities are mainly felt by professionals in engineering, finance, admin, office and support, warehousing and logistics, and manufacturing and assembly.
Comparing salaries from 6 to 12 months ago, salary offerings for skilled labour within the construction, planning, and building fields increased by an average of 13%.
This rings particularly true for architects, who earn at least 20% more compared to 6 months ago, while artisans can expect salaries of up to 15% higher.
Salaries also continue to increase in the field of IT, while finance professionals can expect slightly lower offerings.
Taking a deeper peek into the salary review shows that the best-paid employees are those in ICT, finance, and engineering, with many salaries exceeding R45,000 per month.
On the other end of the spectrum, professionals in the fields of admin, office and support, design, media and arts, manufacturing and assembly, and warehousing and logistics are the lowest earners, with some salaries starting at R5,600 per month.
ICT salaries in Gauteng, Western Cape and KZN
The CareerJunction report shows that ICT remuneration seems to be considerably lower for workers in KwaZulu-Natal, compared to Gauteng and the Western Cape where ICT professionals are in high demand.
It further shows that Salary offerings for Engineers differ dramatically from Gauteng to the Western Cape, where the demand for Engineers is significantly lower.
