Starting salaries for IT professionals in South Africa
Most new entrants in the South African IT job market have one question: “How much will I earn when I start working?”
To answer this question, MyBroadband asked various IT and telecommunications companies in Gauteng, Cape Town, and Durban how much they pay new IT professionals.
What emerged from their feedback is that there is not a big difference in starting salaries between the different regions. However, the type of job is a big differentiator.
While the starting salary of a helpdesk agent can be as low as R5,000 a month, some technical professionals start on salaries as high as R18,000 per month.
The table below provides an overview of the starting salaries by profession in South Africa, based on feedback from prominent IT companies.
