Tesla Motors coming to South Africa: report
Tesla Motors is planning to open an office in South African in early 2016, aimed at providing its energy storage solutions to local consumers and businesses.
Htxt reported that the local Tesla Motors office will be run by Evan Rice – the current CEO of GreenCape and a board member of the International Cleantech Network.
“Tesla will have one employee here from mid-January,” Rice told htxt.africa, “But if we can find some solid business cases and get them going we will be expanding.”
Rice told Htxt that while Tesla’s Powerwall has great potential, his role will be “to develop the market for Tesla’s utility-scale batteries, Powerpack, which were announced earlier this year by Musk”.
Tesla’s Powerpack is the company’s utility-scale rechargeable battery, designed to store energy for off-grid and supplemental power systems.
