Sentech sends stern warning to defaulters

Sentech today issued a press statement where they warn customers who refuse to pay their accounts that from Tuesday, 14 September 2010 it will discontinue signal distribution services to these customers.

“The company is obliged to collect all amounts owing and it would be irresponsible to provide services without receiving payment. Customers whose services will be discontinued until payment is made include mainly government departments and community broadcasters,” Sentech said.

Sentech said that in the past three weeks it has twice sent letters informing customers that the service would be discontinued unless payment was made to settle outstanding amounts due to the company.

“Most of the customers ignored our letters and the subsequent reminders. All customers signed agreements with Sentech for the provision of signal distribution services or for equipment and bandwidth capacity,” the parastatal said.

“We urge our customers to pay their outstanding accounts so that they can continue to provide services to their communities and stakeholders. Their failure to honour their financial obligation affects the company’s revenue.”

“The company is facing hard times and is introducing various austerity measures to cope with the shortage of cash. In these circumstances, the company has decided that it is unable to continue to support customers who ignore our plea for payment and who have made no effort to settle their debts.”

Sentech further said that it is considering the cancellation of contracts of defaulting customers who do not settle their accounts by or before the end of this month.

Sentech provided a breakdown of unsettled accounts, showing that a total of R30,917,794 is owed to the company.
