MultiChoice has released its Social Report for 2016, which details the company’s contributions to the South African economy.

MultiChoice, which counts MNet, DStv, and SuperSport among its brands, said it has contributed R13.8 billion to the local economy.

Part of that spending was made up by:

  • Direct and indirect tax contribution – R5.7 billion
  • Spending on local content – R1.7 billion
  • Spending on local sports content – R1.2 billion

The company said it employs almost 8,000 people, which includes its independent service providers.

Its DStv product has also resulted in the establishment of 1,302 accredited DStv installers, which employ around 4,000 people, it said.
