WeChat and McDonald’s launch mobile payment partnership

WeChat and McDonald’s South Africa are piloting mobile payments at selected restaurants in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Quick Pay lets you generate a QR code in your WeChat Wallet that is then scanned by a WeChat scanner at the point of sale counter.

It lets you load money using your bank card or cash and then pay for goods and services, or transfer money to other users.

To celebrate the launch of Quick Pay, WeChat will give the first 20,000 McDonald’s customers who use the service to buy a meal 50% cash back in their WeChat Wallets.

The promotion is available at:

  • Rosebank (Johannesburg)
  • Fourways (Johannesburg)
  • Woodmead (Johannesburg)
  • Tyger Manor (Cape Town)
  • Century City (Cape Town)

From 1 December, Quick Pay will be available at the following McDonald’s:

  • Sunnyside (Pretoria)
  • Skinner (Pretoria)
  • Waterfront (Cape Town)
  • Carnival City (Brakpan)
  • Parktown (Johannesburg)
