The US Department of Labor has filed a lawsuit against Oracle, alleging that the company pays white males more than their counterparts in the same job.
This practice led to pay discrimination against female, African American, and Asian employees, said the department.
The lawsuit also challenges Oracle’s systemic practice of favouring Asian workers in its recruiting and hiring practices for product development and technical roles.
Favouring Asian workers for technical jobs resulted in hiring discrimination against non-Asian applicants, said the department.
Oracle designs, manufactures, and sells software and hardware products, as well as services related to its products.
“During the investigation, Oracle also refused to comply with the agency’s routine requests for employment data and records,” said the department.
Oracle hit back, saying the complaint is politically motivated, based on false allegations, and without merit.
“Oracle values diversity and inclusion and is a responsible equal opportunity and affirmative action employer,” said Oracle’s Deborah Hellinger.
“Our hiring and pay decisions are non-discriminatory and made based on business factors – including experience and merit.”
