Guptas spied on banking bosses, including Multisource chairman

The Sunday Times has reported that the Gupta family spied on numerous banking executives, including Multisource chairman Paul Harris.

Citing leaked documents, the newspaper stated that the family was in possession of sensitive information about banking execs, including their ID numbers and travel itineraries.

Travel information for citizens is considered highly confidential, and a court order is needed to access this information.

The people who were reportedly spied on include:

  • ABSA CEO Maria Ramos
  • RMB founders Paul Harris, GT Ferreira, and Laurie Dippenaar
  • Investec CEO Stephen Koseff

Harris is the former CEO of RMB, and became the CEO of FirstRand Bank after RMB merged with First National Bank.

Harris is best known in the technology market for his involvement in acquiring iBurst parent Multisource, where he currently serves as chairman.

Harris and Ferreira were also shareholders in Mxit, which was acquired from Naspers and founder Herman Heunis in 2011.
